LECTURES

Week 1

For the first week ,lecturer introduce the module task and the first two Project 1 exercises, and conduct us to create a new Pinterest account. To hone our pen tool abilities, we also played the Bezier game in class as well. An explanation of Photoshop, emphasising its importance to designers and why. It was also noted that photo alteration might be used for "digital imaging," which included both what individuals could do before Photoshop and what they could do with it. Additionally, we studied how to succeed as graphic designers. We were to locate three Photoshopped photographs on Pinterest and explain why we chose them before the exercise even began.

Week 2

Introduction to adobe photoshop

-Basic composition which is white space, a focal point, scale and hierarchy, and a balance of the elements.

-Using two horizontal and two vertical lines, divide an image into thirds using the Rule of Thirds. This method creates an imaginary grid with nine components and four junction points.

-The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio that encourages organic and natural-looking compositions that are visually appealing (via harmony and proportion). a helpful formula for calculating the layout's dimensions (a quick method is to set the ratio 1: 1.618)

-"Commonly used frames" - Single - Two shot composition (framing and cropping)
- Point of view
- Over the shoulder
- Insert shot

Week 3

Introduction of Photoshop

Selection and moving tools.
-Photoshop has dozens of selection tools, from the Rectangular or Elliptical Marquee tool to the Lasso tool. There are also AI-powered fast selection tools like the Magic Wand tool or the Quick Selection tool. Once you’ve done your selecting, move and manipulate your selection with the Move tool.

Navigation tools.
-There are only three navigation tools in this toolbar, but they’re all powerful. The Hand tool lets you pan and move around your canvas, the Rotate View tool allows you to rotate quickly, and the Zoom tool brings you in for a closer look or allows you to back out for the big picture.

-Quick Mask, Rectangular marquee, Elliptical marquee, Lasso, Polygonal Lasso, Magnetic Lasso, Magic Wand. The most efficient way to make a selection in Adobe Photoshop is to use Quick Mask mode. in the lower part of the Toolbox or use a hot key Q .

Week 4

layer adjustment
-a collection of extremely helpful, non-destructive image editing tools that enhance an image's colour and tonality without permanently altering any pixels - can at any time alter the image, remove the adjustments, and restore the original.

"Basic understanding": changing the brightness (highlights) and contrast (shadows)
- level (adjustment of the shadow, midtone, and highlight levels)
- curves (tone editing)
exposure (change exposure levels, offset, and gamma)
- selective colour (changes only the amount of one primary colour, leaving the other primary colours alone).

filters
-alter the colour, add blur, or come up with entirely new image effects

Week 10

Introduction of After Effects

-It is used in the post-production phase in the creation of movies, video games, and television shows. Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing tool. After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing, and animation among other things. Additionally, it performs extremely simple non-linear editing, audio editing, and media transcoding tasks. In the class, we practiced several enhancement techniques based on the lecturer teachings and steps, which will help us in our subsequent projects.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
-I've never discovered the Pen tool's versatility with the Bezier game before.
This was a terrific learning experience for me because I've never used many blending options in Photoshop. Additionally, I picked up a lot of knowledge in the classroom.

Observations
-There are numerous shortcuts to hit in order to carry out specific operations, which can be confusing.
The exercises and assignments were actually very interesting, and after studying what each function did for a bit, it didn't appear as confusing as it initially seemed to be, so it wasn't that difficult to figure out as long as I was serious about learning it. This is so because the software's features and mode of operation are remarkably similar to those of other video editing programmes.

Findings
-I find that after taking a semester of dpi, I am more proficient and flexible with these software as well as skills to create better work, and I can continue to use these skills in future challenges to keep learning as well as progressing!
