  • Perspective Drawings: Illustrations that use vanishing points to create the illusion of depth and space, making objects appear three-dimensional.

  • Composition: The arrangement of visual elements within an artwork, focusing on balance, focal points, and how everything is positioned to guide the viewer’s eye.

  • Value Painting: The use of light and dark shades (values) to create depth, form, and contrast in a piece, essential for establishing mood and volume.

  • Ambience: The overall atmosphere or mood of an artwork, often conveyed through lighting, color, and the use of space to evoke emotions.

  • Color Management: The process of controlling and coordinating color usage in a design or artwork to ensure consistency and harmony across different mediums or platforms.

  • Vignette Set Design: A technique in environmental design where the edges of a scene are darkened or blurred, focusing attention on the central part of the composition, often used in games or films to create a specific mood.

EXERCISE COMPILATION

REFLECTION

Over the past 10 weeks, I've learned a great deal about the fundamentals of Environment Design through various exercises. Perspective drawings taught me how to create depth and realism in scenes. Composition helped me understand how to arrange elements to guide the viewer's eye and create balance. Value painting focused on the importance of light and shadow to define form and mood. I explored how ambience can set the emotional tone of a scene using lighting and spatial design. Color management gave me the tools to maintain harmony and evoke the right feelings through color choices. Vignette set design allowed me to control the viewer’s focus, while photo bashing helped me quickly build and experiment with environments by combining photos and digital painting. Overall, these exercises have strengthened my skills and deepened my understanding of creating immersive, visually compelling environments.
